About

CrimeSpotter is a non-profit initiative started by Morné Leander after the loss of a friend during an armed robbery. This combined with the ongoing violence, drug dealing, theft, murder, human trafficking, rape, cybercrime and petty crimes, throughout South Africa.

Morné studied Design and is always looking for ways to solve the challenges South Africa and the world faces. This lead him to create the CrimeSpotter app. He partnered with a Developer to code the iOS app and is in the final testing phase.

FAQs

Download the CrimeSpotter app from your App Store. Once downloaded you can report crime from within the app. By default your identity is set to anonymous, but you have the option of adding your personal details. When you report a crime, your report is relayed to a crime fighting unit which will investigate your SPOT and act accordingly. The team at CrimeSpotter is not responsible for any SPOTS that are reported and not responded to.
The CrimeSpotter app is available on the GooglePlay (Android) and Apple (iOS) App Stores. Please note: You can't download the app yet as its under development.
No, it doesn't cost you to use the app. CrimeSpotter will soon be available on the Android and Apple iOS App Stores as a FREE download.
By default your identity is set to anonymous, but you have the option to make it known by filling in your name and phone number. We don't share your name and cellphone number with anybody, even if you do choose to fill it in. The only information we utilise is: the Location of the crime, Crime type and Date of crime. Crimespotter only uses this information to improve the app, but to also gain knowledge (and patterns) on crime hotspots, crime types and crime locations.
